Is the Indian Cricket League gravitating towards bad shape? It seems so, if the recent decision taken by the authorities is an indication. ICL authorities are now allowing the foreign players attached to it to be released so that they can come up in contention for being considered to be a part of the national team.

It indeed is ironic that while on the one hand the Board of Cricket Control in India has gone on record to say that the players who are doing the duty for the country in New Zealand would not be given an opportunity to express their franchise through postal ballots, Government of Jharkhand thinks otherwise. It wants to leverage on the powers of the local hero and the Indian Captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni to drive home the message that the common man should come and cast his ballot.

The sport of cricket has already seen several radical changes in its form and structure in the last 5 years: changes that have infuriated the traditional lovers of the sport. It began with a few alterations in the rules and some new additions, and then came Twenty20 cricket which was accepted only after some dissent. Right now a new declaration is rubbing purists the wrong way: that test cricket is soon to be held in coloured uniforms.

Review of the fifth and final day of the second test between India and New Zealand in Hamilton on Monday. The match ended in a draw after centuries from Gautam Gambhir and VVS Laxman stretched the Indian second innings for two days. India were forced to follow-on after they trailed the NZ score of 619 by 314 runs in the first innings.

Cricket review of the 4th ODI between West Indies and England played at Kensington Oval, Bridgetown, Barbados: England won the rain-reduced match by 9 wickets, after Andrew Strauss hit 79 runs of 61 balls. Earlier West Indies scored 239 in 50 overs, but the total was reduced to a target of 135 in 20 overs by the D/L method, and Strauss swooped in on the target with 9 balls to spare.
