Following the terrorist attacks on the Sri Lankan cricket team in Lahore last month - attacks that put the whole cricket world in turmoil - the International Cricket Council (ICC) dropped Pakistan as the co-hosts of the 2011 Cricket World Cup, and its share of matches were take away and distributed among India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. However, Abu Dhabi has offered to step in as the ‘neutral venue’ to host Pakistan’s share of matches.

The injury sustained by Andrew Flintoff at the DLF IPL 2009 which has put him out of action because of the surgery that will be required to be performed as well as the injury recently sustained by Kevin Pietersen is not bothering skipper Andrew Strauss too much according to cricket news reports.

After the England Cricket Board’s (ECB) associations with Allen Stanford for the Twenty20 “Super Series” fell through, England is wary of jumping into anymore T20 matches involving big money. England recently received three offers worth $20 million each for one-off games, which it rejected due to concerns about accepting cash windfalls.

Cricket Australia must be aware what an emotional harassment can do! After all the fighting that took place in the dressing room in the series between South Africa and Australia is still a part of the public memory. The fight that has ensued between the team members, involving Michael Clarke and his girl friend, was whether a player should give precedence to singing the team anthem of Australia or run away to be with the girlfriend. Beside, the captain of Australia Ricky Ponting chose not to play a one day series between Pakistan and Australia in Dubai and rather spent time with his family to tank up the emotional quotient with a prolonged and arduous Ashes tour unfolding in the month of July.

Australian test opener Philip Hughes was reported in the cricket news as saying said that his stint in the county cricket circuit with Middlesex was the perfect build up for the Ashes tour that will commence between England and Australia in July. It would seem that English domestic cricket will ably prepare the Australian for international cricket to the detriment of the English themselves.
