The ICC World T20 is almost here, and all the participating teams have jumped headlong into preparations for it. Most of the squads have been announced, and there is a general flurry of activity among those involved with the sport. Last year’s winners however have just found a spoke in their wheel, and it seems like it’s going to be a while before things can be smoothened out again. Team India seems to be stuck back with a few troubles, erupting just before the tournament.

Chris Gayle has left his IPL team and gone to England to take up the reins of the West Indies national cricket team for the upcoming series against the England team when there will be two tests and three ODIs played. Coach of the West Indian team, John Dyson is not particularly thrilled that the captain has arrived just two days before the commencement of the series so it remains to be seen how the skipper will make the transition from shortest to longest form of the game, from South Africa to England and from league to country and international cricket.

Ehsan Mani, former president of the International Cricket Council (ICC) was quoted in the cricket news as saying that the decision to move the World Cup out of Pakistan was ‘ill-conceived and taken in haste’ and that India has a ‘big hand’ in the decision. According to Mani, a security assessment for the world cup was to be made in August, so it should not have been made now in April. Mani is accusing India of isolating Pakistan and mixing politics with cricket.

Sensing that the American Premier League (APL) is another Indian Cricket League (ICL) in the making, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has urged the United States Cricket Association (USCA) to come up with an American T20 league to counter the APL. Among the other nations who want to climb aboard the international cricket band wagon is China, who aims to be a test playing nation by the year 2020.

Less than a week after the BCCI offered ‘amnesty’ to all the Indian players associated with the ICL, as long as they wow not to have any more dealings with the unofficial league, other boards who banned their national players have followed BCCI’s example, and decided to lift the ban on those conditions.
