As Mahendra Singh Dhoni is named captain of the Indian squad for the ICC World Twenty20 for the second time, Dilip Vengsarkar, the former chief national selector, revealed that it was only on Sachin, Ganguly and Dravid’s recommendation that Dhoni was named captain for the inaugural season of the T20 World Cup.

England won the first test of the series at Lords by a thumping 10 wickets, leading the 2 match series 1-0. With the second match due to begin on the 14th of May, England has introduced a few changes to the squad: Ian Bell and Ryan Sidebottom have been recalled to the squad, while Monty Panesar has been omitted.

A group of leading administrators from the ICC will gather at Lords in a two day meeting to discuss future changes to the ‘purest’ form of cricket. There have been reports in the cricket news that factions have formed within the Pakistan cricket team and its players and that two groups have formed in the team. One is led by skipper Younis Khan and the other by vice captain Misbah-ul-Haq. Reportedly it is the existence of this situation that caused the Pakistanis to lose to the Australian side in the recently concluded 5 ODI series.

The back to back scheduling of the test matches in the currently ongoing series between England and the touring West Indies team has invited criticism from sections of the British media dealing with cricket news as well as cricket commentators. The fact that the first test was over by the third day, leaving spectators with tickets but no international test match to watch, is now being termed as “bad judgement” in terms of scheduling.
