For the first time in the ODI series against South Africa, Australian top order batsmen took a solid stand on the crease and that paved the way for them to claim a solace win at the end of the series and also to better their ODI ranking scalping the 2nd position. Chasing the mammoth total of 303, Proteas too looked in track but only to collapse in the middle and they were all out for 256 in 45.5 overs. A 47 run victory handed Aussies a comfortable 3-2 stance in the series.

There are currently allegations flying in the cricket news that team skipper M S Dhoni and off spinner Harbhajan Singh, who were honoured with the Padma awards this year by the Indian government failed to remain present for the awards ceremony in spite of being in the country. It is being alleged that the reason for this absence is commercial considerations. Breaking cricket news also reports that a criminal complaint has been filed against the duo accusing them of defamation, criminal intimidation and intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace.

After much dillydallying, the England and Wales Cricket Board made the obvious choice for the post of the English national cricket team coach, and appointed Andy Flower to the job. Flower has in any case been doing the job as a fill in since the time of the sacking of Peter Moores from the job and knows the job already. He also has Captain Andrew Strauss’s support and a good rapport with the national selector and it is hoped that he will bring stability to the English team that has been adrift for a while now.
